About the Tournament
The AFC Asian Cup U20 is a biennial international football competition organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for men's under-20 national teams.
History
The tournament was first held in 1959 as the AFC Youth Championship, with South Korea emerging as the inaugural champions. It was renamed the AFC U-19 Championship in 2006 and the AFC U-20 Asian Cup in 2023.
Format and Qualification
Format
The tournament features 16 teams divided into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage, which consists of quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final.
Qualification
Teams qualify for the tournament through regional qualifying competitions held in each of the AFC's five zones (West, Central, South, East, and ASEAN). The host nation automatically qualifies for the tournament.
Past Winners
South Korea is the most successful team in the tournament's history, with 12 titles. Other past winners include Japan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.
