Ford Dealers Urge Owners to Halt Driving 765,000 Vehicles Due to Faulty Airbags
Affected Models Span a Wide Range, Including the Popular Mustang and Ford GT
Immediate Action Required to Replace Defective Takata Airbags
Ford Motor Company has issued a stern warning to owners of approximately 765,000 vehicles, urging them to refrain from driving until potentially fatal Takata airbags are replaced. This directive affects a wide range of Ford and Lincoln models, including the iconic Mustang and the high-performance Ford GT.
Mazda has also issued an advisory for approximately 83,000 vehicles related to the same airbag issue. The defective airbags, manufactured by Takata, have been known to explode with excessive force, sending shrapnel flying into vehicle occupants. This can result in severe injuries or even death.
Ford's "do not drive" advisory applies to specific model years of the following vehicles:
- Ford Fiesta
- Ford Fusion
- Ford Mustang
- Ford Ranger
- Ford Escape
- Ford Edge
- Ford Explorer
- Lincoln MKZ
- Lincoln Navigator
- Lincoln MKX
Nearly half of the affected vehicles are located in the United States, with a significant number also in Canada and Mexico. Owners who have not yet replaced their Takata airbags are strongly advised to contact their nearest Ford dealership immediately to schedule an appointment.
Ford has provided detailed information on the affected vehicles, VIN numbers, and instructions for scheduling a repair on its website. The company urges all affected owners to take immediate action to ensure their safety and prevent potential tragedies.
