FIFA World Cup 2026 to feature 12 host cities across United States, Canada, and Mexico

Canada, Mexico, and the United States have been named the joint hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The FIFA Council made the decision to award the hosting rights to the three countries at a meeting in Zurich on Thursday.

The tournament will be the first to be hosted by three countries and the first to feature 48 teams, up from the current 32. The United States will host 60 matches, including the final, while Canada and Mexico will each host 10 matches.

The decision to award the hosting rights to North America was widely anticipated. The three countries submitted a joint bid in 2018 and were considered the favorites to win.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first to be held in North America since the United States hosted the tournament in 1994.
